How to play Pokémon Scarlet/Violet Expansion on your emulator
Playing expansions on PC can be challenging. From personal experience, I’ve noticed that it doesn’t always work as seamlessly as one would hope. If it works effortlessly for you, that’s great. However, below, you’ll find a solution for those encountering difficulties in playing the expansion. It’s a bit of a workaround, but I’ve seen it work for several people.
There are two major emulators commonly used for Switch games. Of course, there are more, but in my circle, I hear mostly about these two. Between these two emulators, it seems that Riujinx operates more smoothly than Yuzu.
How to play the expansion on your emulator
YUZU: Yuzu makes the installation of expansions quite straightforward. Even if you’ve played the base game, you won’t encounter any unusual issues. After installing the expansion, you’ll quickly notice an exclamation mark on your map indicating your destination, which wasn’t there before. To trigger the expansion, head to the Naranja Academy, specifically the entrance hall. There you’ll find Ms. Briar. After a lengthy conversation, she’ll ask if you want to join. Confirm your willingness, and you’ll find yourself in a new world. However, here’s where the bugs begin. The game freezes after the battle with Carmine.
RIUJINX: Installing the expansion here somehow doesn’t trigger it.
How do we solve this? It’s a cumbersome method, but it works. Install both emulators on your PC. Once you’ve installed one, it’s easy to install the second one and copy your savegame to the other emulator. Open the game in Yuzu and trigger the expansion. At the moment you’re at the bus stop, well before the Carmine battle, save the game. Copy this savegame back to the Riujinx emulator. Now, when you open Riujinx, you can continue playing. Even after the Carmine battle, the game won’t freeze.
I hope this works for you, allowing you to enjoy the expansion without issues!
