There are three separate stories the player can complete. Scarlet and Violet introduce 110 new Pokémon, along with two new regional forms. Also introduced are time-displaced creatures known as Paradox Pokémon, and the Terastal phenomenon which allows a Pokémon to transform into its exclusive “Tera Type”. One of the exciting storylines that players can choose to follow is called the Path of Legends questline.
Path of Legends questline
This questline is initiated by Arven when you speak to him at Naranja/Uva Academy. This pathway will have you working alongside him to track down Titan Pokémon that have been strengthened by the powers of Herba Mystica, extremely rare herbs found only in Paldea.
There are five Titan Pokémon spread across Paldea. These Pokémon have been supercharged by eating different types of Herba Mystica. Arven’s Path of Legends questline involves finding and defeating all these behemoths. Each Titan you defeat unlocks a specific ability upgrade for Koraidon/Miraidon. Each Titan has its own set of strengths and weaknesses.
The best order to take on the Titans is as follows:
1. Klawf, the Stony Cliff Titan:
Klawf is a Rock/Fighting type Pokémon. It is weak to Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, Steel, and Psychic type moves. Using a Pokémon with high Special Defense and Special Attack is recommended. Some good choices would be a Water or Grass type Pokémon with high Special Attack such as Vaporeon or Venusaur. Klawf can be found in the Stony Cliffs area of Paldea.
Once you defeat Klawf, you’ll be given Dash, which allows you to ride on Koraidon or Miraidon faster along the ground.
2. Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan:
Bombirdier is a Flying/Fire type Pokémon. It is weak to Rock, Electric, and Water type moves. Using a Pokémon with high Speed and Special Attack is recommended. Some good choices would be an Electric or Rock type Pokémon with high Special Attack such as Jolteon or Tyranitar. Bombirdier can be found in the Open Sky area of Paldea.
After defeating Bombirdier, you’ll unlock Surf for Miraidon or Koraidon. This means you’ll be able to instantly travel over water when on top of your Legendary ride.
3. Orthworm, the Lurking Steel Titan:
Orthworm is a Steel/Ground type Pokémon. It is weak to Fighting, Ground, Fire, and Water type moves. Using a Pokémon with high Defense and Attack is recommended. Some good choices would be a Fighting or Fire type Pokémon with high Attack such as Machamp or Charizard. Orthworm can be found in the Lurking Steel area of Paldea.
Once Orthworm is beaten, you’ll unlock Jump for your Koraidon or Miraidon, which allows your Legendary to launch up higher into the air than they could before by holding B down. This will make it easier to explore going forward and is a great precursor for Glide, which you’ll get later.
4. Great Tusk (Scarlet) / Iron Treads (Violet), the Quaking Earth Titan:
Great Tusk is a Ground/Ice type Pokémon while Iron Treads is a Ground/Steel type Pokémon. Great Tusk is weak to Fighting, Steel, Fire, Grass, and Water type moves while Iron Treads is weak to Fighting, Ground, Fire, and Water type moves. Using a Pokémon with high Defense and Special Defense is recommended. Some good choices would be a Fighting or Fire type Pokémon with high Defense such as Conkeldurr or Arcanine. Great Tusk can be found in the Quaking Earth area of Paldea in Scarlet version while Iron Treads can be found in the same area in Violet version.
Once you knock it out, you’ll unlock Glide, which — as the name suggests — lets Koraidon or Miraidon glide in the air by pressing B after already being in the air. Use it to travel to new places and explore Paldea further.
5. Dondozo and Tatsugiri, the False Dragon Titan:
Dondozo and Tatsugiri are both Dragon/Fairy type Pokémon. They are weak to Poison, Steel, Ice, and Fairy type moves. Using a Pokémon with high Special Defense and Special Attack is recommended. Some good choices would be an Ice or Fairy type Pokémon with high Special Attack such as Lapras or Gardevoir. Dondozo and Tatsugiri can be found in the False Dragon area of Paldea.
Keep attacking with Fairy and Dragon hits until this little guy is defeated. After that, you’ll learn Climb, which is one of the most useful Travel Abilities for getting to hard-to-reach places. Enjoy exploring Paldea in a new way.
Final Battle – Vs Arven in Path of Legends questline
The final story battle is a tough one. After you get to the end of “The Way Home,” you’ll fight one more trainer before you get to get and actually use Koraidon and Miraidon (depending on which version you’re playing). This battle is tough because your opponent has a team of powerful Pokémon that can pose a challenge even for experienced trainers.
To beat this final battle, it’s important to have a well-rounded team with diverse types and abilities to cover each other’s weaknesses. Make sure your team has good coverage against different types of attacks and that each member has moves that can deal super effective damage against your opponent’s team.
